When I first got the book, I expected simple explanations of idioms followed by basic stories. To my surprise, the author's skill is so profound! They can re-interpret those ancient legends, passed down through millennia, in a way that modern children can understand and accept. Take the story of "The Foolish Old Man Who Removed the Mountains" for example. Before, it was just a symbol of pure perseverance. But in this book, I saw the emotional bonds within the Foolish Old Man's family, the mutual help among neighbors, and even felt the Foolish Old Man's optimism and open-mindedness when facing difficulties. This storytelling method not only taught me the meaning of idioms but, more importantly, allowed me to experience the wisdom and life philosophy contained within them. My favorite part is that while telling stories, the author doesn't deliberately emphasize the "lesson"; instead, the lesson naturally emerges, allowing readers to comprehend it unconsciously. Take the story of "Waiting by the Stump for a Rabbit" (守株待兔) for example. After reading it, what comes to my mind is not ridicule for the farmer, but a warning against the mentality of "relying on luck" and "getting something for nothing." This subtle educational approach is much more profound than direct indoctrination. Furthermore, the book's handling of details is excellent; both the psychological portrayal of characters and the rendering of scenes are very delicate, making the stories more vivid and moving. I even feel that this book can serve as a "guide to life's enlightenment" because it conveys not only knowledge of idioms but also life wisdom, attitudes towards life, and ways of dealing with the world. I see the cover of the book reads "My First Book of Idiom Stories," but I think, regardless of age, it can always be "the first" book of idiom stories.
