The 823 Battle is crucial to ensure the ROC security and maintain the peace across the Taiwan Strait. Though suffering frantic artillery fire, servicemen and civilians on Kinmen stood unshaken in solidarity under austere situations. They not only shattered PLA’s wishful attempt to capture Kinmen, but also stemmed its further ambition to invade Taiwan. The blood, sweat and tears that they shed for the country wrote a glorious page in our history. On commemorating the 60th anniversary of the 823 Battle, we should bear in mind the enduring legacy bequeathed by our predecessors and cherish the hard-obtained democratization and peace achieved by their heroic sacrifice. Then it is hoped that each individual inexorably defends the security and prosperity we enjoy now.
