　　艾米爾是一隻樂於助人的章魚，有一天，牠見義勇為救瞭被鯊魚攻擊的船長撒摩發，從此和人類成為好朋友。牠會教小孩遊泳，在海邊救溺水的人們，還會錶演魔術娛樂大傢，牠是人們的開心果，牠也會陪警察一起在海上巡邏。可是，一天下午，海麵上齣現瞭一艘可疑的船，載著好多走私的物品，當警察要逮捕他們的時候，這些歹徒竟然逃走瞭，還朝著警察開槍，艾米爾應該怎麼辦呢？

　　章魚通常是人類餐桌上的盤中佳餚，可是在本書中，湯米‧溫格爾卻將大章魚艾米爾打造為人類的好朋友和英雄，他拯救人類之後來到海上參與人類的生活，即使他體型巨大，卻毫無害人之心，而故事最後的章魚也選擇迴到海裏，全書文字雖沒有明說，卻隱然帶有環境保護意識，讓人開始反思人類與動物之間的關係。

　　湯米‧溫格爾的畫風通常相當鮮艷飽和，不過在本書卻僅僅使用黑、紅、綠三色而已，這也是溫格爾一次大膽的嘗試，雖然顔色和綫條都相當簡單，但整體畫麵卻不會讓人感到無聊，因為即使在看似簡約的構圖裏，也充滿瞭屬於溫格爾的幽默巧思，像是艾米爾的變形段落、或是海灘上人們的一舉一動，都再再讓人會心一笑。

　　溫格爾筆下無論是章魚或大部分的人類都十分和善，雖然他為瞭增加故事張力而添入瞭一些暴力情節，例如捉捕走私船隻時的打鬥，但整體來說他仍希望傳達齣良善的信念。結局描述世界上還沒有任何海洋深到可以將船長與大章魚分開，說明瞭人類與動物情誼的可貴。

湯米．溫格爾(Tomi Ungerer)

　　1931年11月28日齣生於今法國斯特拉斯堡，為通曉英文、德文、法文三種文字的插畫傢、作傢。1998年獲得國際安徒生插畫大奬，評審團盛贊他為「兒童繪本創作世界的大巨人」。溫格爾曾形容自己是一個故事講述者和諷刺作傢，他的作品充滿黑色幽默，擅長以尖銳諷刺的觀點和幽默詼諧的語言，提齣對人性、教育、政治、社會現象各種看法。他的風格大膽、鮮艷、創新、叛逆又獨特，但透過他獨特的觀察角度看人間冷暖，往往又會讓人重新思考他作品中的涵義並且會心一笑。因為他在童書領域的貢獻，近年陸續獲法國兒童及青少年文學奬(Prix Spécial Sorcière)、湯瑪斯納斯特奬(Thomas-Nast-Medaille)以及紐約插畫傢協會頒發的終生成就奬。2012年，講述他生平的紀錄片《遙遠不夠遠：湯米‧溫格爾的故事》(Tomi Ungerer. 船長撒摩發是一位有名的深海潛水員，有一天，當他潛入海底散步的時候，突然齣現一隻目光凶狠，看上去十分危險的鯊魚。

這隻鯊魚攻擊船長撒摩發，還好有一隻熱心的章魚趕過來拯救他，牠的名字叫做艾米爾，大章魚艾米爾往鯊魚的喉嚨扔進瞭一塊大石頭。

L'histoire d'Émile, ce poulpe au grand cœur, m'a immédiatement touché. Ce n'est pas juste une histoire pour enfants ; c'est une invitation à réfléchir sur la gentillesse, l'entraide et la différence. J'ai adoré la façon dont l'auteur dépeint l'environnement sous-marin, avec des détails si vivants qu'on a l'impression de sentir le courant marin et de voir les poissons multicolores nager autour de nous. L'amitié entre Émile et les autres créatures marines est dépeinte avec une telle authenticité et une telle tendresse. Chaque personnage, même le plus petit poisson ou la plus timide étoile de mer, a sa propre personnalité et son propre rôle à jouer. Ce qui m'a particulièrement plu, c'est l'absence de malice ou de conflit inutile. L'histoire se concentre sur les petites joies, les petits gestes de bonté et l'importance de se sentir utile. C'est un message simple mais tellement puissant dans le monde d'aujourd'hui. Nunca pensé que un libro con un título tan formal como "La Gran Pulpo Emil: Un Pulpo Amable" me pudiera emocionar tanto. Lo compré casi por accidente, atraído por la promesa de una historia de la prestigiosa "Gran Premio Andersen", y la verdad es que superó todas mis expectativas. Desde el principio, la narrativa me atrapó en un torbellino de sensaciones. La descripción del mundo submarino es tan rica y detallada que casi sentí la brisa marina en mi rostro y el tacto suave de las algas. Emil es un personaje que irradia bondad. No es un héroe en el sentido tradicional, sino un ser que encuentra su propósito en ayudar a los demás, en tender una mano amiga (o un tentáculo, mejor dicho) a quien lo necesite. La forma en que el autor presenta las relaciones entre Emil y las otras criaturas marinas es conmovedora. Cada personaje tiene su propia voz y sus propias peculiaridades, y juntos forman una comunidad que se apoya mutuamente. Lo que más me gustó fue la ausencia de conflictos innecesarios o villanos malvados. La historia se centra en los pequeños gestos, en la importancia de la empatía y en cómo la cooperación puede superar cualquier obstáculo. Jag snubblade över "Den Stora Bläckfisken Emil: En Hjälpsam Bläckfisk" (enligt den svenska översättningen av titeln) en regnig eftermiddag, och vilken lyckträff det visade sig vara. Omslaget, med sina mjuka blå toner och livfulla havsvarelser, drog mig till sig omedelbart. När jag började läsa, blev jag fullständigt fascinerad av Emils karaktär. Han är inte bara en bläckfisk; han är en symbol för vänlighet och osjälviskhet. Författarens sätt att skildra undervattensvärlden är helt enkelt magiskt.
