By and large, retailers are expecting upward trend in sales. They'll open their stores early to draw in customers by offering various kinds of special promotions. This term comes from the idea that retail stores will generate enough sales to get them in the black' meaning profits in the company's accounting, which are recorded in black as opposed to loss in red.

　　在美国唸书，工作，和生活了20多年之后，我有幸到世界不同国家旅游，工作。过去的14年，在不同的国家和地区，我一再发现了相同的事实。

　　对于母语不是英语的人来说，他们讲英语不像地道的美国人。虽然他们接受过当地正式的英语教育，或是专业英语学校及培训班的培训，但是，他们说英语的方式和地道的美国人不同。我初步的结论是他们多半从未在美国唸书，工作，或生活过，不了解美国文化，更别说语言了。我试着帮他们理解如何像地道的美国人思考，讲英语。过去的两年半?，略有小成。

　　大约在2010年十一月，我开始与我的同事分享美国客户日常对话中常用的英语表达方式，并且得到了他们的肯定。这种肯定鼓舞我将与他们分享的英语收集成册，这本书也就因而诞生。
