他从上世纪起九十年代开始走访哈佛、伦敦等地图书馆，搜集大量国内已遗失于外地的珍贵记录，是以此书所载都是极为珍贵的材料。

我们继续上星期《伦敦新闻画报》第641 页上的速写和报导。在广场上女王伊莎贝尔二世画像的旁边有两个人像，我开始以为是木雕像，代表女王陛下身旁的两个卫兵。我觉得这倒是个别出心裁的好主意，因为用木雕的卫兵来站岗是绝不会疲倦的。
这两个卫兵身着盛装—头戴三角帽，手持画戟。但我后来才发现他们原来是真人，每30 分钟换一次岗。
我从来没有看到过比这更不寻常的事情了，因为我盯着他们看了很长时间，也没有看出他们的肌肉有丝毫的动弹。
广场上用以照明的灯是一个盛着椰子油和一根灯芯的普通平底无脚酒杯—这实际上就是我们平时晚上点的油灯。
由于女王的特殊状况，整个城市会不时地像这样佈置起来。
