本书是作者从传播学研究出发，作者以过去担任国会、党政记者经验对国家政策与公民社会发展的关切，观察美国最受欢迎新闻与最受欢迎的台湾电影与深受美国年轻人喜爱的讽刺时事秀的解读，本书涵盖採取量化方法分析网路新闻，并以质化的方法分析打败好莱坞大片的台湾电影、收视率打败专业新闻的美国假新闻讽刺秀，部分论文则以文化研究观点，观察消费现象，或以文化经济解读政府发展影视产业的逻辑盲点与建议。
